A councillor who was raised and schooled in East Bierley has been appointed Lord Mayor of Bradford.
Joanne Dodds, formerly Hobson, attended East Bierley first school, Birkenshaw Middle School and Whitcliffe Mount Comprehensive School before she moved to Bradford and became a councillor.
She said: “This is such a privilege and a honour to be the first citizen of Bradford.
“I have so many fond memories of growing up in East Bierley with my six brothers and sister.”
Coun Dodds has represented the city’s Great Horton ward since 2006. She moved from East Bierley in 1985 when she got married.
Coun Dodds is also a member of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority.
Coun Dodds first civic appointments included the flag raising ceremony at Bradford’s Centenary Square for Armed Forces Week and scuba diving in Tong High School’s pool as part of a campaign to encourage more women and girls to be active.
Throughout the coming weeks she will attend armed forces events, the opening of a new coffee shop and visit tunnels recently rediscovered in Bradford city centre.
Coun Dodds said many members of her family still lived in East Bierley
