A public meeting will be held on Tuesday by the Friends of Batley Station to discuss ways to improve the town’s rail gateway.

Jo Cox, Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Batley and Spen, said: “The friends group has been created so that we can secure and carry out improvements to our station.

“The hope is that this will benefit not just commuters and rail users but also the wider community by enhancing one of the key routes into our town.

“Anyone who’s interested will be more than welcome. We’re committed to working with anyone with an interest or a stake in our station. We’re also developing a team of volunteers to help lead this.”

The meeting will be on March 17, 7.30pm-9pm at Batley Older People’s Centre, 90 Commercial Street.

The speakers will include Jo Cox, chairwoman of the group coun Gwen Lowe, Dawn Wolrich from the Association of Community Rail Partnerships, Pete Myers from Northern Rail, who run the station, and Dave Pearson from the Combined Transport Authority.
