Jane Yelland’s great-grandmother Agnes Bottomley was sent the image and her relatives would like to know more about its significance, which they think could be linked to World War One.

The subject is dressed in a nurse’s uniform in the early decades of the 20th century, and the photograph is signed ‘K Matthews’.

A message attached reads: ‘How are you? We have had three emergency cases - one I went to. But am the next one out again. Just got these photos today so thought you might like one. With love to yourself and kiddies.’

Agnes Bottomley and her husband and children lived above a shop on the corner of Huddersfield Road and Station Road in Mirfield when the photograph was posted to her.

Her descendents are now hoping to include a copy of the photo in an upcoming exhibition about the war at Trinity Methodist Church, as they believe the unidentified nurse may have treated soldiers wounded while fighting on the front line.

“My uncle found the photo after his mother died. The message on the back is very brief and we would love to find out more about this woman and where she worked. If anyone recognises her, we would like to hear from them,” said Ms Yelland.

Anyone who can help Ms Yelland idenfify the lady can contact her on 07811487372.
