International performers Above and Beyond will thrill crowds on Sunday August 18 with a show featuring flying trapeze, rope, silks, hoops, swinging and acrobatics at up to 35 feet in the air.

And young audience members could find themselves being part of the action when agricultural entertainer Bob Hogg takes to the main ring with two entertaining animal displays.

Chairwoman Karen Bullivant said: “This year has been financially a little harder as our costs continue to rise – the marquee alone is over £7,000 – but we are determined always to put on a show with entertainment the public are unlikely to have seen locally before.”

Other attractions in the main arena will be the horse and pony show, the ATC marching band, Panache Cheer School, the Katie Philpott Dancers, the Sarah Sutton Dancers, a children’s fancy dress competition, children’s races and the ever-popular Mirfield Show Tug-of-War.

Elsewhere in Mirfield Showground, animal lovers can look forward to a mini zoo with meerkats, animal corner, owl display, sheep display, jersey and highland cattle, and donkey rides.

Children are in for a treat too with a laser combat zone, zorb balls, bouncy castle and slides, under fives play area, games, rides and more.

Thousands of exhibits will be displayed across hundreds of classes in the various shows, including horse and pony show, fun dog show, and flower and vegetable show.

There will also be more than 60 trade stands and craft stalls around the showground, ranging from artisan foods and handicrafts to local businesses and charity fundraising.

Mrs Bullivant said the show team wanted to offer a low cost summer day out for all the family.

“The entrance for children remains absolutely free, the amazing main arena entertainment will be free, and they can enter most of the classes and competitions for free,” she said. “Families are also free to bring their own food and enjoy it in our picnic area.”
