While in the conflict-torn region, the MPs will meet Palestinian and Israeli government officials and members of the UN, as well as visiting a hospital, to gain an insight into the area’s political situation.

The Dewsbury MP said: “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for many years. It’s a significant issue in Dewsbury, especially in terms of the humanitarian issues.

“There seems to be quite significant concerns about young people being detained kind of unlawfully and forced to sign confessions. I want to understand if that’s happening.

“It’s about going out there and seeing things first hand. It’s an opportunity to ask questions.”

“I’m going out there with an open mind. It’s a great opportunity for me.”

She also hopes to make a video diary during the week-long trip, to keep constituents up to date with her packed itinerary.

The delegation has been planned alongside the Council for Arab-British Understanding campaign group, which focuses on conflict resolution and human rights in the Arab world.
