Mum and daughter lost their locks for charity

A mother-and-daughter duo have bravely lost their hair in aid of a good cause.

Sally Nero and her mum Pauline Longbottom had their heads shaved in front of family and friends at Mirfield Cricket Club to raise money for Macmillan Nurses after both Pauline and Sally’s brother were affected by cancer.

Sally’s four-year-old daughter Hetty-May cut off her mum’s ponytail before Damon Auty, who owns a Mirfield barbershop, finished the close crop.

The night also featured a disco and raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, including a teeth whitening course from George’s Salon and other contributions from Spice of Bengal, Beau Beauty, Chelle’s Deli, Tender Touch Therapies and Cafe 52.

DJ for the night Mikey’s Mobile Disco also donated his fee to the charity and a total of £1,500 was collected on the night.

The ponytail was sent to the charity Little Princess Trust, which will use the hair to make a wig for a child who has lost theirs during cancer treatment.

Pauline became aware of the valuable service provided by Macmillan during cancer treatment, when she met patients and families who had been supported by the charity’s nurses.
