The plea comes as the NHS warned that, in West Yorkshire, 15 people died due to the shortage of organs in the last year and there are currently 337 people in the area waiting for a transplant.

Sally Johnson, director of organ donation and transplantation for NHS Blood and Transplant said: “Last year 173 people living in West Yorkshire benefited from a life-saving organ transplant thanks to families making the decision to donate when a loved one died, a decision that we know makes them incredibly proud.”

Sarah Dickinson, of Heckmondwike, died in 2012 after suffering a brain aneurysm.

Unbeknownst to her family, Sarah had signed the organ donor register weeks before.

Six people, including a 12-month-old boy, were given new hope after receiving her organs.

And her relatives said they could take comfort knowing that her generosity and thoughtfulness helped save the lives of others.

Her mum Lorraine Charnick said at the time: “While ever these people live on, so does she. The little boy who is only one year old has his life ahead of him.”
