The parks are among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that received a prestigious Green Flag this year – the mark of a quality park or green space.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

At the awards ceremony community awards were also presented to Upper Hopton, and West End Park. PPG Industries (Johnstones Paint) who actively support community groups in Birstall and Batley also received a business award.

Councillor Naheed Mather Cabinet Member for Communities and the Environment said: “I would like to thank all those involved in making our parks fantastic places to visit for their truly inspiring dedication. From the friends groups and volunteers to the site staff, it is your commitment, inspiration and enthusiasm that has helped the parks successfully achieve these awards.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme, with more Green Flags awarded this year than last year.”
