Painting a pretty picture
FAMILIES in Batley learned some new skills during the school holidays at a portrait painting workshop in the town’s art gallery.
Children and adults practised painting self portraits during the session at the art gallery in Market Place last Thursday.
Course leader Stephen Mcgrath said the group had a go at drawing themselves and they looked at the pictures to see how they could be improved and what techniques could be used to make them better.
Stephen said: “One of the things we looked at was proportion.
“Children for example tend to draw eyes too far up, so we looked at where people tend to go wrong and helped them understand the principles of drawing portraits before they had another go and were then able to see how they’d improved.
“The workshop went really well.”
