Police appeal after pensioner is pushed over in robbery

An 88-year-old woman minding her son’s shop was pushed over before three men made-off with cigarettes in Earlsheaton last night (Monday).

The robbery took place at Bennett Lane Stores off-licence in Leeds Road between 5.20pm to 5.30pm.

The men entered the store with crash helmets on. Two stood at the till, while a third distracted the Ukranian womanand walked round, grabbing two packets of cigarettes worth just £14.79.

The woman, whose son was upstairs, tried to intervene and was pushed over by the man.

The trio then fled on two white motor scooters. One man’s helmet was black with green markings and another man’s white with red markings.

The woman is shaken but otherwise unhurt.

Inspector Ian Thornes, of Kirklees CID, said: “The robbery occurred on a busy main road and anyone who can help should ring 101 and ask for Nigel Gittins.”
