Gomersal Primary School was thrilled to officially open its new adventure playground at the school summer fair.

The Mayor of Kirklees, Gwen Lowe, cut the ribbon and declared the playground open to a huge cheer. Representatives from HSBC were also there.

The playground came about as a result of Friends of Gomersal (FOG), along with key members of staff, submitting a bid to HSBC and successfully securing a grant of £38,000.

FOG also donated funds to boost this amount. The money, along with hours of voluntary work from members of FOG, HSBC and school staff, made this dream come true.

The school – which was recently graded Good by Ofsted, also now has a tyre run, a traversing wall, games tables, a revamped school garden and two outdoor classrooms.

Melanie Cox, Headteacher at Gomersal Primary School, said: “We were so excited to officially open our new adventure playground and it was an absolute pleasure to meet the Mayor of Kirklees. Children have already benefited from the improved grounds.”
