Quids In for the Reporter Series Fund

Reporter series editor Hannah Ridgeway said: “Asking for a cash donation is a simple way to raise money, any amount will help.”

A little can go a long way - and this week we’re asking for your help to get the Reporter Series Fund growing.

Whether it’s organising a cake sale, sponsored silence, a non-uniform day at your school or simply giving us your change we need you to get involved.

This year we’re supporting four charities in the Reporter Series Fund - Kirkwood Hospice and the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, which both offer free specialist end of life care, grassroots charitable foundation One Community and national charity Asthma UK.

Once you’ve got an idea for a fundraiser, let us know, and we’ll tell everyone about it, and feature photographs of your event or challenge once it’s complete.

Miss Ridgeway said: “We know there are some very, very generous people out there in the area who will have some fantastic ideas for fundraising.

“I really hope that our readers will get on board with us and chose the Reporter Series Fund as a beneficiary for fundraising.

“We want to cover your event and give you, or your organisation, some publicity for your fundraising efforts. So, if you could pledge to do a bag pack, a coffee morning, a sponsored run, or anything else for this fund just let us know.”

When you’ve totted up the total raised, simply call in to our Dewsbury office on Wellington Road with cash or a cheque, made payable to the Reporter Series Fund.

Cheques can also be sent by post to the Dewsbury Reporter, 17 Wellington Road, Dewsbury, WF13 1HQ, or dropped through the letterbox at the Batley News, 11 Commercial Street, Batley, WF17 5HL.

The charities set to benefit -

Money donated to the Reporter Series Fund this year will be split equally between four charities:

Kirkwood Hospice

The charity offers free specialist care to adults in our district with life limiting illnesses at any time from diagnosis until end of life. It runs inpatient, day care, community palliative care and drop-in services, plus an advice line for professionals. It also supports families, friends and carers.

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice

The hospice supports children with life limiting conditions and their families throughout West yorkshire. It cares for more than 50 children though its Hospice at Home service and at its new hospice building in Huddersfield, and offers counselling and advice to their loved ones.

One Community

The charitable foundation gives grants to grassroots groups and small charities in Kirklees to support their work in our communities. It uses money raised through endowment funds to support local projects ranging from arts festivals and junior sports to luncheon clubs and youth groups.

Asthma UK

The national charity works to reduce the impact of asthma on people’s lives. It gives experts advice and support to those affected. It also funds research into treatments and finding a cure for the condition with claims a life every eight minutes in the UK.
