Robber attacks 64-year-old shop worker with crow bar

A robber assaulted a 64-year-old shop worker with a crow bar during a robbery in Birstall.

The incident happened around 3pm last Monday, July 4, when a man entered the Ackroyd and Son Convenience Store on Leeds Road.

He demanded money and made threats to the lone 64-year-old man who was working, before assaulting him with what is believed to be a crow bar.

The suspect made off with an amount of cash towards Howden Clough. 

He is described as a mixed-race male around 5ft 6ins tall and of stocky build.

He was wearing a grey hooded top, with the hood up, a black balaclava and black gloves. 

Det Con Simon Thomas of Kirklees CID said; “I would appeal to anyone who was around the area on Monday afternoon who may have seen anyone matching the suspect description, or who has any information to speak to police. Enquiries are ongoing.”
