The ChildLine Schools Service uses assemblies and workshops to encourage children to recognise situations where they might need help and teach them how they can get support.

Yorkshire and Humber service manager William Shaw said: “This is a real opportunity to change the face of child protection in the UK.

“The ChildLine Schools Service is fundamentally focused on safeguarding young people and we believe it will make a significant contribution to preventing child abuse.”

The programme, created for nine to 11-year-olds, needs to recruit more than 10 volunteers in Kirklees to reach 67 schools in a year.

Mr Shaw said: “Volunteers are key to the delivery of this exciting new service so it is vital that local people come forward to help us achieve the aim of protecting future generations.

“If you are interested in volunteering, please get in touch to find out more about joining the ChildLine Schools Service team.”

Interviews for the next intake will be held on July 24.
