Sentimental jewellery stolen from pensioner

Thieves distracted an elderly woman at her home before making off with sentimental jewellery.

The burglary took place at Smithies Moor Rise, Batley on Saturday November 29 between 7pm-7.30pm.

An elderly, female occupant disturbed two men who had entered her bedroom while she was downstairs. They distracted her while taking jewellery and cash from the house and leaving through the front door.

The jewellery included a gold bracelet with two rugby challenge cup medals on including charms, possibly with an engraving of WP DAVIS 1897.

The jewellery belonged to the victim’s late husband and has a significant sentimental value.

Det Con Kris Roberts of Huddersfield CID, said: “This incident has left the victim very shaken and distressed. Burglars frequently take things without giving thought to the sentimental value of items which could be irreplaceable.
