Shoppers in North Kirklees urged to think local for Independents’ Day
Trader groups across the district are backing the Independents’ Day campaign, aimed at showing shoppers the importance and diversity of independent stores.
On Friday July 4, shoppers from across the country are encouraged to buy at least one item from a local shop.

Hide AdBatley Business Association chairman Andrew Marsden said: “This is great opportunity for people to see the great range of choice available in the town centres.
“These sorts of days are very important in helping to support towns like Batley, and the local traders who help offer the best choice for shoppers.”
Andrew White, who runs Mick’s Fruit And Veg in Mirfield, said the town has seen a resurgence of independent traders in the last few years.
“When the Co-op opened it had a big effect on trade but people are finally getting back on their feet,” he said.

Dewsbury Chamber of Trade president Trish Makepeace said: “It is extremely important people shop at local stores because if they don’t then we will lose them.”
