Supporters of the military turned out on Saturday as Armed Forces Day was marked in Mirfield.

Around a hundred spectators watched a presentation and ceremony to pay tribute to force members past and present at the Old Colonial in Dunbottle Lane.

The opening address was made by Ian Grange, before speeches by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Stan Hardy, Mirfield town councillor and veteran David Pinder, and Mirfield MP Simon Reevell (Con).

Landlord and organiser Tim Wood said: “This was to thank the armed forces for the work that they do.

“We had a great turnout and it could not have done any better.”

There was also a drill display from 868 squadron and a pipe and drum display by Wrexham Lowlanders.
