Two slimmers from Woodkirk have been crowned Slimming World’s Diamond Members of the Year.
Vicky Taylor and Charlotte Newton were both nominated for the local group’s award after their successful long-term weight loss.
The pair have been Slimming World members for two years, and have been rewarded for maintaining a healthy body weight rather than for drastic slimming.
“When I first came to the group I found it hard to believe I’d ever reach my target weight because I’d tried so many diets before and they’d never worked for me. They were always too restrictive or there was no support,” said Charlotte.
“I found it extremely difficult to lose weight on my own because there wasn’t anyone there to keep me going when I felt like giving up. With Slimming World the support that I needed was there right from day one. It was inspiring to hear from other people who’d lost weight and my consultant Louise has been fantastic. I finally started to believe I could achieve the weight loss I’d always dreamed of – and I did. Better yet, it wasn’t just a flash in the pan, I’ve made a change for good.”
The ladies followed a carefully-designed healthy eating plan instead of a crash diet, and still attend group meetings, where they are entitled to free sessions if they keep within three pounds of their target weight.
“I still follow the diet today and I’ve passed lots of healthy habits on to my family and friends too,” added Vicky.
“I’ve made so many friends that I can’t imagine not going to the group each week – it’s like my weekly night out! Everyone inspired and supported me to achieve my target and now it’s my turn to do the same for other people, to show the same kindness, warmth and compassion that I was shown. Coming to the group keeps me on track too, and I’m always picking up new recipes and tips.”
The friends’ success has delighted Woodkirk group consultant Louise Backhouse.
“I’m so proud of them both and the inspirational way in which they maintained their weight loss.
“It’s always great for new members to meet our diamond members and see just what’s possible – after we’ve explained why such a healthy, slim-looking person is in the group in the first place, that is!
“I hope they inspire other people in Woodkirk too,” she said.
The group meets at Woodkirk Valley Country Club on Monday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm and all are welcome to attend.
