Long-serving licensee Alan Ingle, who runs the Pear Tree in Huddersfield Road, decided Christmas would not be Christmas even if Kirklees comes out of Tier 3 restrictions and hospitality venues can re-open.

With furlough available for his staff until March, the landlord is taking his first Christmas and New Year off in 31 years.

“We want to come back for Mothers’ Day,” said Mr Ingle.

“Even with the vaccine it’s going to be into March at least before 70% of the population is vaccinated.”
