UPDATE: Fire crews still fighting Ferrybridge Power Station blaze

More than 50 firefighters are still battling a blaze at Ferrybridge Power Station.

There are 15 pumps from stations across the county at the scene, along with ambulances and aerial appliances from Leeds, Halifax and Wakefield.

The Express understands that all staff at the station are accounted for and that nobody has been injured.

Residents nearby have described the scene.

Brendon Griffiths, of Pollards Fields, said: “All I heard was shouting that there had been a fire at the power station. I ran out and saw all the black smoke and knew it was bad.

“I have never seen anything like this before. I was panicking for the safety of people around here. If it exploded it would be a real risk.”
