UPDATED: Heavy rain causes travel disruption

Motorists across West Yorkshire faced travel disruption this evening (Tuesday) as a result of heavy rainfall.

Drivers were warned to take extra care when two lanes were closed on the M62 eastbound junction 28 to 29 near Tingley as a result of standing water.

All lanes are now open and there are no delays.

Due to flooding in the Morley area some lines between Leeds and Huddersfield were blocked, causing delays to services.

National Rail has confirmed that trains are now runnning normally on these lines.

Trains between Bradford Interchange and Halifax are now also running normally following earlier signalling problems caused by a lightning strike.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ weather warning for rain which is in place until midnight.

A warning is also in place for Wednesday, with further slow-moving bands of heavy rain likely to continue. The Met Office said it will be a minority of places which see the larger downpours, but where it occurs, there is the risk of localised minor flooding.
