There were two new faces but very few surprises in our area when votes were counted for the Kirklees Council local election.
Only the Dewsbury South seat changed party, from Conservative to Labour, giving the party all nine of the town’s seats.
Meanwhile Marielle O’Neill won the Batley West for Labour, which was previously held by her father, Peter O’Neill, who retired this year.
There were no other changes in North Kirklees as Cleckheaton was held by the Liberal Democrats, Birstall and Mirfield by the Conservatives, and all Batley, Dewsbury and Heckmondwike seats were held by Labour.
