War hero’s art display

FROM tomorrow, visitors to Batley Art Gallery will be able to see the latest Balcony Gallery exhibition by a lifelong artist and true survivor.

As a child Leonard Bradbury, who lives in Batley, was allowed to draw on a cupboard door with chalks which sparked his interest in art. As a prisoner of war he drew cartoons and pictures of fellow prisoners’ girlfriends to get by.

This exhibition at the gallery in Market Place is 88-year-old Leonard’s first public exhibition and draws from his lifetime of experiences and his love of painting.
