White wedding for church’s 140th

WE may be preparing for the wedding of the year, or of the decade, but one Birstall church is hoping its forthcoming festival will celebrate the weddings of a lifetime.

Thursday, 28th April 2011, 11:39 am

St Saviour’s Church is to host a Wedding Dress and Flower Festival, exhibiting classic dresses through the ages as well as floral displays and themed music. It will also be offering in vow renewal ceremonies for any visiting married couples.

The event is just one of many planned throughout the year to celebrate the Brownhill church’s 140th anniversary.

The festival will kick off with a ticket-only preview evening on May 6.

On the Saturday the festival will be opened by Batley MP Mike Wood at 10am, and the church will stay open until noon, then open in the afternoon from 2pm to 4pm.

And on Sunday, following the 10am service, guests can enjoy a light lunch before a visit by the Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Andrew Palfreeman.

The festival will conclude with a service celebrating marriage and the opportunity to renew marriage vows.

Throughout the event resident organist Joyce Bennett will be playing a range of wedding music.

Anyone wanting tickets to the preview evening, which cost £5, can contact Edith Davison on 01924 441122.
