Will your commute be delayed by a leaf on the line?

Believe it or not, Northern Rail have introduced daily leaf forecasts to show the likelihood of your journey being delayed.

The company said: “Autumn is fast approaching and we all know this can bring wind; rain and leaf fall along with it - a combination which can lead to slippery tracks and unfortunately delays to our services.

“With this in mind, we’re working hard to ensure all our customers are kept well informed about potential disruption to their services.”

Daily Leaf Fall Forecasts will be shared on Northern Rail’s social media channels throughout autumn with the hashtag #LFF and a colour code to show the risk of delays.

Leaf Fall Forecasts will be posted every morning, informing customers whether they expect delays on the network and taking into account the expected weather and leaf fall conditions for the day.

The Leaf Fall Forecasts will be separated into four risk categories with varying degrees of risk of delay for each: Yellow, Orange, Red and Black.
