Woman racially abused by man on bus in Batley

A woman was racially abused in Batley as she waited to get off a bus in Staincliffe.

Police in Batley are asking the public to help them identify a man who shouted the abuse at the woman on the 268A bus for Bradford as it stopped near Dewsbury District Hospital on Saturday September 5 at about 4.30pm.

The victim is a Muslim and was wearing a Niqab at the time which covered most of her face. The suspect made reference to her Niqab in his verbal assault.

The suspect is described as being white, around 45-years-old, tall and of stocky build. He had tattoos covering both arms and wore a plain grey top and jeans.

He was sitting about three rows back from the front of the bus at the time.

PC Chris Birkenshaw of the Batley and Spen NPT, said: “This sort of behaviour is both abhorrent and completely unacceptable and I would appeal to anyone who saw this incident and can identify the suspect to come forward.”
