Kirklees College is looking for firms to offer work experience placements to its Foundation Learning students.

As well as aiding their studies, work placements can help students to boost their employability and confidence levels.

Placements of one day a week can be arranged to suit businesses, with support for students’ needs to ensure they can do what is expected of them during the placement.

Kirklees Council learning placement officer Nicky Pearson said: “We are looking for local businesses who can offer a range of opportunities from retail and office work to education and outdoors, depending on the area the student is interested in.

“There is no cost to the companies and it is fantastic experience for our students to be able to get the experience of a real job placement.”

Students Joshua Wilson, 18, of Earlsheaton, and Alex Trudgill, 22, of Ravensthorpe, have been working on placement at Wilton Park, Batley, helping to maintain the park and museum grounds.

The pair, based at the college’s Dewsbury centre, hope the experience will lead to apprenticeships.
