Asquith leads way with hat-trick as Roberttown Rovers seal trophy success

Roberttown Rovers eased into the Heavy Woollen Challenge Trophy quarter-final with an 8-1 win over Overthorpe Sports Reserves last Sunday.

The Division One high fliers proved too strong for a side who lie mid-table in Division Two as Andrew Asquith led the way with a hat-trick with Dean Vernon, Matthew Bolton, Reiss Brooke, Taylor Biggins and Max Vernon also chipping in.

Roberttown travel to Birstall St Patricks in the quarter-final on November 27 after Joe Parry, Matthew Orme, Adam Swinden, Kieran Cooper and Ash Parkinson all found the net as they won 5-1 against Wike Horse (Eddie McKay).

Scholes Athletic continued their impressive season with a 5-1 win over FC Liversedge.

Scholes have only lost once in the league this season and lie second in Division One and they also eased into the trophy quarter-finals as Jonny Irvine bagged four goals and Jimmy Mortimer hit the other.

FC Liversedge replied through Paul Fryer and an own goal but it wasn’t enough and Scholes entertain Westgate 23 in the last eight.

The top two sides in Division Two locked horns with Westgate 23 emerging victorious as they overcame unbeaten leaders Wire Works 2-1.

Alex Wilson and Jake Blackburn netted as Westgate secured victory, despite James Hamlet replying with Wire Works’ consolation goal.

Saville Arms needed penalties to beat local rivals Old Bank WMC after their game ended 4-4 after 90 minutes.

Kieran Corley, Scott Ryan, Jack Baldwin and Danny Damen netted for Saville, with Old Bank replying through a Will Evans brace, plus strikes from Robert Evans and Jason Evans.

Saville Arms went on to win the shoot out 4-1 but are waiting their quarter-final opponents after the match between Linthwaite Reserves and Dewsbury United was deemed void as it was not completed in accordance with the competition rules

Snowdon are safely through to the last eight after a 3-1 win over Clifton Rangers Reserves as Waqar Bashir hit a brace and Bilal Mir netted the other.

St Ignatius have received two byes into the quarter-finals, where they now meet Snowdon.

Hanging Heaton Cricket Club claimed their first win of the season in the Heavy Woollen Sunday League Championship as they defeated The Yorkshireman 4-2.

Victory was enough to see Heaton climb to seventh spot after braces from Joe Jagger and James Keen saw them earn victory.

Deighton WMC moved up to fourth place in Division One after Gary Price, Brenton Williams, Kedean Fogarthy and Darren Williams all scored in a 4-1 win at St Ignatius (Lloyd Bonsel).
