Bierley defeat Heaton in derby

Yorkshire second team bowler James Lee claimed 4-75 including the key wicket of Naveed Ghany for 79 as Bingley were dismissed for 207.

Cleckheaton opener Mark Cummins carried his bat for 74 while captain John Wood led his side to victory with a half century, supported by Marcus Walmsley (40) as they reached 208-6 in 50.3 overs.

Victory saw Cleckheaton move third-bottom, while Bingley stay top, just two points clear of Farsley.

Gomersal were plunged into the bottom two after a five-wicket defeat at Manningham Mills. Ben Platt (59) led the Gomersal charge, supported by captain and opener Richard Whitehurst (33) as they were reduced to 173 all out in 47 overs.

Imran Khalid (4-43) did most of the damage, while Iqbal Khan and Zeeshan Qasim took three wickets apiece. Khalid was also the top scorer with 65 as Mills reached 175-5.

East Bierley took the honours in a Heavy Woollen derby at Hanging Heaton.

Heaton put Bierley into bat a decision they might have regretted as opener Gharib Razak stormed to 56 before Rob McFarlane (4-34) and Mark Lawson (3-44) took care of the middle order.

Former Hanging Heaton player Ismail Dawood dominated the Bierley batting. In a final dramatic over Ismail Dawood hit John Carruthers for three sixes before being out off the fourth ball for a superb 80.

Carruthers went on to take the wicket of Luke Jarvis with his next delivery and had a claim for caught behind turned down off the final ball of the innings as Bierley set 211-9.

Ismail’s brother, Imran, top scored for Heaton with 36 supported by Lawson (26) and new signing Tayyab Khan (27) but they were bowled out for 156 in 45.3 overs as Kez Ahmed (4-51) was the pick of the Bierley bowling.

Woodlands continued their recent surge with a 75 run victory over Baildon as they moved fourth.

There were some solid innings from the Woodlands top order as Scott Richardson Snr set the pace with 40 and fellow opener Sam Frankland made 41no. Adam Goldthorpe added a useful 46 as Woodlands laid down the gauntlet with a total of 164.

Richard Atkins (4-65) and Mushtaq Ahmed (4-25) did the damage.

Woodlands’ bowlers then took charge as Pieter Swaepoel swept to a five wicket haul conceding 47 runs. Chris Brice (2-17) and Safraz Ahmed (2-22) were economical as Baildon were bowled out for 89.

In Division Two Spen Victoria captain Tosh Baker took the initiative against Brighouse, as he made 56.

There was valuable support from Matty Senior (43), Joel Pollard (31no) and Rob Burton (30) as they set 192-8.

Rob Burton led the bowling attack with 4-37, sharing the limelight with Criag Woodhead (4-40) as they combined to dismiss Brighouse for 135.

Hartshead Moor were undone at home by Division Two leaders Lightcliffe in quite spectacular fashion.

Moor were bowled out for just 97 with the top scorer being extras on 21 and Jonathan Gould not far behind on 17. The bulk of the damage was done by Evan Edwards who took 3-23 and Chris Greenwood with 3-19.

It proved impossible to defend such a small total against an in-form side and Lightcliffe raced to victory in 21.1 overs. Former Yorkshire batsman Chris Taylor led the charge with 44 with Alex Stead contributing 38.
