Birstall Victoria U10s joy at Rhinos Festival Shield success

Birstall defeated Dearne Valley 4-1 and Shaw Cross Sharks 3-1, drew 2-2 with Hull Wyke and lost 3-0 to Ryland Sharks in the group stages, leaving the Vic to compete in the Shield competition.

Victoria overcame Irish Clovers 3-1 to reach the final, where they met Dearne Valley.

In a much closer game, the Vic won 2-0 as all 10 players put in an outstanding effort and collected the shield from Rhinos stars Tom Briscoe and Jamie Jones Buchanan.

n Birstall Vic Under-16s continued their fine form with a 24-10 win over Wibsey.

Scrum half Matty Goodwill jinked over for the opening try but the Vic then lost Brendan Fearn with a broken collarbone.

Brandon Dyson scored after great work from Joe Snaith, Zachary Knowles and Thomas Clarke.

Wibsey pulled a try back despite the efforts of James Colleran and Aaron Clough but hooker Lee Riach scooted over from acting half-back to increase Birstall’s lead.

The Vic completed their scoring before half time when Jacob Fozard raced 50 meters to the try line.
