THE Under-11s were involved in a second successive derby and this time they came out on top, beating Shaw Cross 18-10.

MoM Jacob Fozard was in great form, scoring a try and taking the best opponent award.

Half-backs Jake Butterfield and Alex Hollingworth crossed for fine tries, while Jake Dye was Birstall’s most improved.

Bradley Saville and Owen West tackled well. Sam Hoyle, Morgan Senior and James Colleran shone on attack.

Bailey Chell converted Birstall’s tries in a faultless display with the boot.

Oran Walton and Owen Robson gave the Cross defence plenty to think about with some direct running.

Birstall’s magic moment came from Callum Roberts, whose crunching tackle late on dislodged the ball giving Vic possession and a deserved victory.

n The Vic would like to thank both sets of supporters for their kind generosity, as the match day raffle was donated

to the Liam Simon Johnson fund and raised 112.

Victoria Under-9s had players missing but put up a good fight and were just edged out by Fryston.

Liam Brotherton and Casey Rhodes made cracking runs and special mention goes to George Daddy, Josh Jackson and Millie Taylor, who took heavy knocks but battled on.

Kane Ellis was a constant threat and Bailey Singh worked non-stop to get a deserved try. The stand-out player was Reece Ashworth, who took Vic forward and scored a well earned hat-trick.

Parents’ player-of-the-match was shared by Ellis and Singh, who also got the best opponent from Fryston. Jackson took most improved for his hard work and coaches’ player-of-the-match was Ashworth.

Jack Waring and Charlie Blockley will return this weekend.

Any boys or girls interested in joining the Under-9s. Training will switch to White Lee School field from next Wednesday between 6.15pm and 7.15pm.
