Bradford League clubs frustrated by weather

Covers remained in place on most Bradford League grounds last weekend as heavy rain prevented play in all but four first team matches.

Division Two leaders Morley travelled to New Popplewell Lane for a top-of-the-table showdown against Scholes but only two overs were possible.

Yasir Ali and Christian Jackson bowled a maiden apiece before play was halted.

Baildon closed the gap on second placed Scholes to 25 points and the top three sides all have six games remaining.

Baildon clinched a five-wicket win at Yeadon as they chased down a score of 115-4 with one ball to spare in a game reduced to 22 overs per side.

Captain Simon Bailey hit an unbeaten 57 as Baildon earned themselves 12 points on a day when their rivals were frustrated by the rain.

Oliver Halliday took 3-55 for Yeadon but could not save them from defeat.

Damon Gormley (38no) top scored for Yeadon, while Waqas Maqsood (3-38) was the pick of the Baildon bowlers.

Bankfoot recorded an 84-run win over Windhill in the only other completed match in Division Two.

Nigel Hanson took 5-21 and Hissan Ahmad (4-23) as Windhill were bowled out for 48 in reply to Bankfoot’s 132-7 in a 25 overs contest.

There was even more frustration in Division One where play was possible in just one much, where bottom side Saltaire earned a four-wicket win over Pudsey Congs.

Saltaire remain at the foot of the table but they have cut the gap to second-bottom Farsley to 19 points with five games to play.

Joe Greaves top scored with 35 as Congs made 128-6, with Adil Mustafa taking 3-39.

Asif Ayub (48) and Amer Ayoub (32no) steered them to victory with five balls to spare in a 24-over contest despite the efforts of left-arm spinner Nick Lindley (3-25).

With no play possible elsewhere, Pudsey St Lawrence remain 12 points clear of Woodlands at the top.

Cleckheaton are a further four points back, with Hanging Heaton 20 points off the top.
