Bromby aims to raise profile of Liversedge

It was as a teenager playing in Liversedge’s first team that Bromby was spotted by scouts at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 35-year-old Cleckheaton lad signed for the Owls and went on to make 332 professional appearances for Wednesday, Sheffield United, Watford, Norwich and Leeds United.

Bromby is now a coach at the Huddersfield Town Academy but is now preparing to get involved back at Liversedge.

Bromby said: “If I can give a little bit back now I am willing to help.

“Many of my childhood memories are going up to Liversedge, where I watched my dad play and there was always a good vibe about the place.

“We want to get that back, become a community club and attract local people to come and watch.

“It was because I was playing at Liversedge that I got the opportunity to sign for Sheffield Wednesday.

“I look back and it went pretty quickly, from playing at Liversedge at 16 or 17 to playing for Sheffield Wednesday.

“It was a good standard, we used to get good crowds and we had a couple of runs in the FA Cup.

“It was a good experience for me and stood me in good stead for what I went on to.

“It was a good experience to play against men. I went into youth football at Wednesday from Liversedge but I’d been playing men’s football, so I knew what to expect.”

Bromby believes that he can help raise the club’s profile and attract local businesses to get behind the club.

Bromby is co-owner of Coubrough and Co estate agents, who have three branches in Cleckheaton, Wyke and Birkenshaw.

He formed the company with good friend James Coughborough, who was also at Wednesday and had a spell at Liversedge.

Another former Sedge player, Craig Sugden is overall manager of Coubrough and Co and the firm have just taken over as Liversedge’s main shirt sponsors for this season.

Bromby added: “My role as chairman will be to help raise the profile of the club, perhaps try and attract sponsors and bringing the Huddersfield side along for a friendly.

“We have also talked about getting games against Bradford and Leeds and that is where my links will come.”

Former Liversedge player and new committee member Dan Cooper is delighted to have Bromby on board as they aim to take the club forward.

Cooper said: “We are really aiming to raise the profile this year and plan to hold sponsors evenings and networking sessions.

“It would be great to entice other local businesses to get involved with Liversedge.”
