Yates boxes out of the Central England Boxing Club in Batley, home to Gary Sykes, under the guidance of former Dewsbury professional Mally McIver.

Yates dominated from the first bell, using fine boxing skills against his much taller opponent, to take a unanimous points decision on all three judges cards.

Yates now faces the North East champion in the semi-finals in Chesterfield this Sunday, hoping to reach the final in Kent on December 14 when the prize is a place on the England Junior Boxing Team.
