Charity cricket events planned over Bank Holiday weekend

Mirfield’s Heavy Woollen Cup winning side of 1990 will stage a get together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their triumph this Sunday.

Mirfield defeated Shepley by 80 runs in the 1990 final at Ossett and went on to complete the double by clinching the Central Yorkshire League Division One title.

Andy Kaye has managed to track down all 11 players from the cup final and they will play in a game, while raising money for two charities.

Players will pay a match fee, while there will be a raffle and other fundraising events, with money raised going to Parkinson’s Disease and Speakability charities.

The Mirfield class of 1990 were captained by Derek Johnson, with the other members Martin Gledhill, Andy Bolt, Russel Heritage, Iqbal Khan, Lee Morritt, Richard Gledhill,

Crossbank Methodists then stage their annual Mary Wood Sixes competition on Bank Holiday Monday, sponsored by Solly Sports.

Birstall will be looking to retain the trophy, while as Aussie All Stars team, Howden Clough Old Boys, Heckmondwike & Carlinghow, Mel Wood’s Heroes, Upper Hopton and two Crossbank teams are competing.

Play begins at 10am, entry is free and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
