Clough U11s clinch double on penalties

A thrilling cup final saw league champions Howden Clough Under-11s win on penalties against Honley.

Honley struck early before defenders Jonny Hill, Jack Bottomley, Brad Lay and Jake Michaels dug in. Morgan Jasiok created chances and Jonny Hill hit the equaliser.

Injury plagued Clough came out in the second half with captain Joel Wright making some great saves. Striker Maison Cleghorn was unable to break the Honley defence while George Stones working hard in midfield creating chances.

Clough went 2-1 down but hard work from Louis Thornton and Daniel Pinder saw Clough in with a chance. A fine pass from Jack Smith saw Joshua Teale’s sweet strike make it 2-2.

Extra-time produced some great football with Henry Welford to the fore but Honley held on for penalties. Both sides converted five before a Honley missed and Clough scored to lift the cup.
