Commonwealth Youth glory is Chisholm’s Games target

The 17-year-old recently returned from the European Games in Baku having won two silver medals.

Chisholm has also won two golds, a silver and bronze at the British Summer Championships and now gets a crack to compete at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Despite the daunting task of being so far away from home, the youngster is relishing the chance to compete on another international stage.

Chisholm is ranked third in Britain as a junior in four events and won two gold medals at the Energy Standard Cup 2015 meet in Italy.

Chisholm said: “It has been a good year for me, I have learnt a lot and experienced an athletes village set up in Baku, so I’m really excited for the Commonwealth Youth Games.

“It will be great to compete against some of the best youth swimmers in the world. I know Samoa is a long way away, but I am looking forward to making the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

But it won’t just be a holiday for the promising young swimmer as he targets returning with a Commonwealth Youth Games medal

He added: “Team England have been great, really supported us, provided us with lovely kit, made the journey very hassle-free and I can’t wait to see the camp and hopefully pick up at least one medal.”

The fifth Commonwealth Youth Games will take place in the Samoan capital city of Apia from September 5 to 11.

England has attended all previous Commonwealth Youth Games, always finishing in the top three nations.

Around 1,000 athletes aged 14-18 will be competing for 107 gold medals in nine sports over five days of competition in Samoa.

Team England includes 60 athletes, representing archery, athletics, boxing, lawn bowls, rugby 7s, squash, swimming and weightlifting, plus coaching and support staff.
