Batley hold nerve to edge close contest at Hartshead
Batley held their nerve as they edged to a thrilling four-run win over Hartshead Moor in Allrounder Bradford League Championship One last Saturday.
Moor had Batley in all kinds of trouble as Josh Tingle (3-25), Iain Wardlaw (3-60) and Dan Squire (2-28) helped reduce the visitors to 103-8.
Roheil Hussain (59no) and Tariq Hussain (19no) rescued the innings with an unbroken 64-run stand to guide Batley to 167-8 at the close.
Craig Field (43) and Mohammed Khan (40) appeared to have put Moor on course for victory only for two run outs, including Khan, to halt them.
Musa Ahmed (3-10) and Naveed Zamurad (3-36) also impressed with the ball for Batley as Hartshead slipped from 140-5 to 163 all out.
Gomersal went down by just 10 runs in a high scoring clash with Pudsey Congs, which produced 620 runs.
Jonathan Donnelly hit 73 off 52 balls, while Barney Gibson (63) and Mustafa Rafique (63no) supported as Congs made 315-7, with Chris Rhodes taking 4-77.
Micky Hutchins (67) and Richard Wear (62) impressed in reply but it was Jack Seddon who threatened to win the game for Gomersal as he smashed five fours and five sixes on his way to 63 off just 29 balls.
Seddon was out with Gomersal 60 runs short of victory and although they continued to take the game to Congs, ended on 305-9.
Ossett are still searching their first win of the season after suffering an agonising one-wicket defeat for the second consecutive week.
James van der Merwe (44) top scored in Ossett’s 156 all out against Bankfoot and they looked on course to break their duck as Joe Finnigan (4-37) and Matthew Varley (4-52) reduced the visitors to 153-9 only for last man Andy Stothard (6no) and Jordan Tailford (26no) to edge Bankfoot home.
Second-placed hosts Wrenthorpe made 211 against leaders Undercliffe, as opener Jordan Sleightholme hit 64.
Wrens reduced the visitors to 71-7 in reply but Khalid Usman followed up his 3-46 by smashing 77 not out as they edged home by one wicket with last man Craig Wiseman four not out.
