Dewsbury enter team in gruelling triathlon relay

A group of fitness fanatics from Dewsbury Sports Centre entered a four-man team in the British Club Relay Championships at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

The relays consisted of each team member swimming 500 metres in open water before passing on to a teammate.

After the four-man team had completed the swim, the first person rode 15k before the entire team had to complete a 5K run.

James Skidmore and James Wood are fitness instructors at Dewsbury Sports Centre and were joined by members Cerys Thomas and James Jackson for the gruelling event as they competed as Team KAL (Kirklees Active Leisure) as part of the as part of Wakefield Triathlon Club.

The British Championships saw 162 teams entered and the Dewsbury team finished 45th, despite competing in their first event, finishing the course in a total time of three hours 54 minutes and 12 seconds.

The group are hoping to get more interest in a view to putting several Dewsbury Sports Centre teams for next year’s event, with the ITU World Triathlon Series due to be staged in Leeds in June 2016.
