Dewsbury Moor keep pressure on table toppers

Dewsbury Moor maintained the pressure on Pennine Championship One leaders Doncaster Toll Bar with a 22-12 victory over King Cross.

The visitors had suffered a heavy defeat to Toll Bar the previous week but began well at joint leaders Moor, taking an early 6-0 lead.

Moor responded well and drove forward through Matt Shaw, Jamie Samme and Brad Foster.

Richard Squires sent a long pass out for young winger Tom Kaye to beat the defence and score a well worked try.

King Cross were proving difficult opposition and grabbed a second converted try to lead 12-4.

Moor rallied and again showed character when good handling from Anthony Boardman, Ashley Boddy and Cameron Bruce allowed James Eatherley to send Kaye over for his second try.

Moor dug deep to continue the fightback after half-time and hooker James Delaney spotted a gap in the defence, darted through and raced 75 yards for the equalising try.

The conversion was again missed, leaving it 12-12 but 10 minutes later Moor hit the front for the first time.

Bartley O’Brian, Tobias Richardson, Danny Wardman and Ben Hardacre did well to keep King Cross out before Eatherley broke the defence and raced 80 metres for a terrific try.

Kaye and Jacob Flathers produced try saving tackles before Phil Shotton and Adam Barrett took Moor upfield and Delaney darted through for a try, which Eatherley converted to seal victory.

It proved a fierce contest with the opening 30 minutes scoreless until lively play by Simon Whiteley, Jacob Crosswell, Jon Bownass and Bob Cavaghan set up a good field position.

Peter Robinson and Dean Arundel linked for Lewis Hardy to score and after Jonjoe Fox, Cain Croitty and Cameron Adleigh had gone close, Peter Robinson nipped over and Moor led 8-0.

Moor added a third try on the hour when Arundel sent Conor Ineson close to the line before Louis Greenwood nipped through a gap and over for a try, which Croitty goaled.

Beeston responded with a late converted try but Moor had done enough to register a hard-fought victory.
