Double delight as Mount produce cup upset

MOUNT sprung an upset last Sunday as they dumped Huddersfield Central Premier side Penistone out in the first round of the Allsop Cup.

Abdul Ravat hit seven fours in his 75 as he shared a 122-run second wicket stand with Fakir Laher, who hit five sixes and four fours in a rapid 63. Captain Hassan Jee Patel (48) and I Rawat (23no) also chipped in as Mount reached 232-5.

Penistone had no answer to Mount’s pace attack as they were skittled out for 86. Imran Kayat took an excellent one handed catch to dismiss D Richards for 28 and this proved to be the turning point in the game.

Laher capped a fine display by claiming 5-25, while Ahmed Patel took 4-21.

It was a double winning weekend for Mount A as they defeated Upper Hopton in Section B last Saturday.

Mount were bowled out for just 89 with Russ Laycock (4-31) and T Wilkes (3-17) striking.

However, the Mount pace attack did even better and skittled Hopton for 49 as Hasan Jee Patel claimed 5-13 supported by some fine fielding.

Mount B bowed out of the Tinker Cup, going down to Mirfield B.

Mount were bowled out for 115 as Suleman Rawat made 58 and the 17-year-old is strongly pushing for a first team call up. Mirfield cruised to victory on 117-4.

Mount B had a thrilling victory against Heckmondwike and Carlinghow in Section E on Saturday,

Mount were restricted to a modest 154-6 with G Badat and A Waza top scoring with 34 each.

In a thrilling finale, Heckmondwike and Carlinghow required two to win off the last ball but Ismail Sidat bowled the perfect yorker to knock over the batsman’s off stump and seal victory.

This Saturday sees Mount A entertain Crossbank while the seconds visit Calder Grove seconds.

n Four businesses have got together to sponsor 65 tracksuits for Mount CC.

Safi Chopdat, of SAC Accountants, was the first sponsor for Mount Juniors nearly 20 years ago and he has joined with Safeway Coaches, Raje Sports and Kayat Tours in providing the tracksuits.
