Double ton for Hussain

BATLEY’S Muhammed Asif Hussain produced the outstanding performance of the Jack Hampshire Trophy last Sunday.

He struck a remarkable 215 not out, including nine sixes and 27 fours as he faced 140 balls at home to Westwood Park as he helped Batley to a matchwinning 326-3.

Westwood Park replied with 219 as Ijaz Ali made 75. Batley’s Ayaz Seedat went on to claim 4-29.

Birstall were knocked out by Altofts despite some fine batting. Craig Wood anchored the innings with an unbeaten 91 as he struck nine fours and four sixes. Richard Hobson 34 and Stuart Clifton 42 helped the Leeds Road side reach 234-5. It wasn’t enough though as Lachlan Curtis made 100 and Jordan Sleightholme 62 in their reply of 235-4

There was no joy for Mirfield Parish as they fell to a 52 run defeat against Buttershaw St Pauls. Chasing 318-2 Parish had David Winn contributed a fine 65 and Daniel Hope added 60. Matthew Blakeley made 48, but with Chris Kellett taking 5-66 for Buttershaw Parish were bowled out for 266.

Ben Crossland scored 35 for Scholes in their total of 184 but they fell way behind Methley’s target of 327-5.

The previous day in the Central Yorkshire League Mirfield Parish Cavaliers and Hunslet Nelson were involved in a thrilling finale in the Premier Division.

Jonathan Boynton laid a firm foundation for Parish with 95, including nine fours and six sixes, supported by David Winn with 50, to help them set a challenging 313-7. However, Hunslet, who were promoted with Parish last season had Will Stickler on form as he struck a fine innings of 99, including 11 fours and a six before being run out. Tommy Roy opened up with 66. Sohail Raz was the last Nelson man to fall with eight balls remaining and only three runs needed for victory. In a tight final over Mirfield restricted Joe Smith to just two runs and the match finished as a tie.

Birstall remain bottom of the Premier League after a 112 run defeat against New Farnley.

Richard Hobson scored a half century for the home side but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat as they were bowled out for 130 chasing New Farnley’s total of 242-8. Jamish Patel was the pick of the Birstall bowlers with 4-40.

Batley earned a 54 run victory over Carlton. Muhammed Tahir was a big influence as he made 40, to help his side set a target of 260. Tauseeq Raza contributed 50 and Ayaz Seedat made 43.

Tahir then claimed 4-30 as Carlton were reduced to 206 with two balls to spare.

Moorlands are second after three matches as they beat Oulton by 66 runs. Alan Sumner who scored 66 and Christopher Stott 76 combined to see Moorlands to 242-5.

Oulton were put under pressure as Moorlands strike duo Christopher Lloyd claimed 3-54 and Muhammed Hafeez 4-50 to bowl Oulton out for 176.

In Division Two Adwaltonearned a three wicket win over Batley A.

Umar Majid made a useful 70 and Saqib Talib 41 helped Batley to a target of 218 all out.

James Curtis was impressive with 3-72 but it was Christopher Priestley who claimed the top honours with a haul of 4-43 and then he went on to star in the Adwalton innings with a top score of 72 in their total of 219-7.

Scholes tied with Caribbean despite a terrific effort on both sides.

Ben Crossland hit five fours and three sixes in his innings of 64, supported by Joe Duffy 52 and Matthew Baxter 41 as they set down a target of 238-8. Everton Wattley took 4-38 for Caribbean.

The home sides’ batsmen kept up the pace Hariss Shah made 59, Khurum Ejaz was unbeaten on 46 as Caribbean were restricted to the same score as Scholes.

Birstall A earned a 117 run win over Gildersome.

Sean Twohig played a big role for Birstall as he made 62, supported by Malcolm Ellis with 41 as Birstall made 230-6.

Gildersome’s Liam Pearson took 3-42. It wasn’t enough though as Twohig was quickly into his stride claiming an impressive 5-28 to reduce Gildersome to 113 in which James Thompson top-scored with 25.

Hopton Mills were 131 run winners over Wrenthorpe A.

Chris Stott led the way with 37 and there were five other scores of 20 plus.

Wrenthorpe were bowled out for a mere 80 thanks to a superb haul of 4-9 in only 7.3 overs by Leigh Learie supported by Philip Scott 3-20.
