Howden Clough earn victory to move top of Wakefield League Division Two
Howden Clough are the new leaders of Wakefield League Division Two after they secured a 2-0 win away to Snydale Athletic Reserves last Saturday.
Jack Anderson and Ryan Kerrache were the goal scorers as Clough secured an eighth win of the season, which saw them move three points clear of Pontefract Town, although they have played two games more.
Dewsbury Westside are third, six points behind the new leaders, after they earned a 4-0 win away to FC Broadway.
Irfan Ali led the way with a hat-trick, while Zaaid Sajawal also scored as Westside kept in touch with the front runners.
Thornhill United are fourth, a point behind Westside, after they earned a 3-1 win away to New Carlton.
Thornhill led 2-0 at half-time and although Grant Swift pulled a goal back for the home side, United secured victory thanks to strikes from Jack Haigh, Sam Haigh and Tristan Kennedy.
With Westside not in action this week, Thornhill can move above their rivals if they secure victory at home to Garforth WMC.
Howden Clough slipped to a 5-1 defeat at home to Kirk Deighton Rangers and are third-bottom in West Yorkshire League Division One.
Andrew Griffiths scored Clough’s consolation goal but couldn’t prevent a 10th defeat of the season and they are now just a point clear of second-bottom Featherstone Colliery, who have a game in hand.
Hartshead Reserves slipped to a 5-0 defeat in a rearranged alliance Division One game away to Hall Green United Reserves.
They recovered from having Liam Dyson sent off and secure victory through a brace apiece from James Cusworth and Malcolm Kajau plus an Eddie Scargill strike.
Howden Clough Reserves secured a 1-0 win away to East End Park Reserves and lie seventh in Alliance Division Two, while Wyke Wanderers Reserves are 11th, following a ninth defeat of the season as they went down 6-0 at home to unbeaten leaders Salts Reserves.
Jacob Seward led the way with a hat-trick for Salts, who also had Matthew Bailey, Nathan Hartley and Oliver Hulme on target.
