The Whites were leading hosts Wolves 2-1 into the second minute of injury time until Danny Batth came up with a late equaliser when heading home from a corner carelessly conceded by keeper Paddy Kenny.

United had earlier trailed to a Lee Peltier own goal, but were looking good for all three points after Luke Varney equalised then Ross McCormack fired home a penalty awarded for a foul on Sam Byram.

However, the final 2-2 result left them in 11th place in the table with a chance missed to close the gap on the teams in the play-off positions in the Npower Championship.

United manager Neil Warnock made four changes to the starting line-up for the trip to Molineux with debuts handed to new signings Steve Morison and Stephen Warnock, in place of Aidan White and El-Hadji Diouf, and Paul Green and David Norris returning in midfield.

Leeds started well with Norris’s first minute shot being deflected just over, McCormack and Green shooting wide.

At the other end, Kenny saved well from Kevin Doyle and Bakary Sako, but the hard working Morison headed just over and McCormack went close as United were a little unlucky not to be in front at the break.

It was Wolves who found the net early in the second half when the under pressure Peltier turned a cross into his own net.

But United responded well as Norris shot over then they equalised when McCormack set up Varney to score with a good shot.

Green blocked a Christophe Berra header on the line as the hosts looked to hit back before Leeds struck again on 78 minutes when Byram was brought down in the area by Sako and McCormack netted from the spot.

There was a sting in the tail, however with Batth’s injury-time header and United were left frustrated at having to settle for a draw.
