Leeds United confirm Hunt is on

Leeds United have confirmed they have signed striker Noel Hunt on a free transfer.

The deal was widely anticipated after Hunt’s contract with Reading - where he worked with current Leeds boss Brian McDermott - came to an end last month and United cleared the way by loaning out Steve Morison to Millwall.

The 30-year-old Hunt has signed a two-year contract with Leeds.

The Republic of Ireland international scored 39 goals in 162 appearances during a five-year stay at Reading.

United manager McDermott said: “Noel is a player that I scouted five years ago when he was playing for Dundee United.

“We spent £500,000 on him at the time and that was money very well spent.

“He’s an infectious character and I’m sure he will engage Leeds United fans with his desire and determination and never say die attitude.

“He will bring an awful lot to our squad on and off the pitch and I’m delighted he’s chosen to come and play for Leeds.”

Hunt becomes the third player to sign for the Whites this summer after Luke Murphy arrived from Crewe and Matt Smith joined from Oldham.

He is expected to make his debut in United’s first pre-season friendly game at Farsley on Saturday.
