Liversedge fight back to beat Albion Sports and end long winless run

It was Liversedge’s first league win since a 3-2 success at Knaresborough Town on August 18 but was enough to move them above neighbours Thackley and Hall Road Rangers into 16th place in the table.

Sedge appeared to be heading for another defeat as goals from Alhassane Keita and Ombeni Ruhanduka within two minutes of each other midway through the first half put Albion Sports 2-0 up.

However, the sending off of the home goalkeeper turned the course of the game and within three minutes of the re-start for the second half, Liversedge were level as Alfie Raw and Brandan Kane netted.

Kane edged Liversedge ahead with his second after 63 minutes and completed his hat-trick soon after to ensure his side left with all three points.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men went into last night’s re-arranged game away to Albion Sports having dropped into the bottom three in the table on the back of three straight defeats, including a 10-0 thrashing away to Bridlington Town last Saturday.

The writing was on the wall after just three minutes when Nathan Modest put Bridlington ahead and Sedge were 4-0 down inside 26 minutes after a Joe McFadyen double and one by Andrew Norfolk.

Chris Jenkinson made it 5-0 on the stroke of half-time and things got no better after the break as Fraser Papprill hit a sixth just after the hour mark, before Bridlington added four more goals to complete the rout.

Chris Adams made it 7-0 before McFadyen completed his hat-trick, while late goals by Daniel Norton and Benjamin Clappison made it double figures.

Liversedge will now target back-to-back wins and seek a first home win of the season when they host second-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday.

Victory on Wednesday has seen Liversedge move seven points clear of Railway and they will look to put further daylight between themselves and the bottom two.
