Foulstone hat-trick in historic win

The team was led by manager Mick Turner, from Shaw Cross Sharks, while Dewsbury Celtic duo Pat Foulstone and substitute Alex Walmsley, along with Thornhill Trojans Simon Walker, all played.

It proved to be a memorable game for Foulstone, who also plays for Shaw Cross, as the winger raced in for a hat-trick of tries and also landed three goals from four attempts.

Foulstone scorched over for his first try from 70 metres, added a second after half an hour and completed his treble with another long range effort after 50 minutes.

Centre Walker was also among BARLA’s scorers in the 11-try rout when he collected a loose ball and raced over for a first half try, while Walmsley came off the bench to play his part in the match.

Sky TV commentator Mike Stephenson, who recently became president of Shaw Cross Sharks, attended the game in his role as BARLA vice-president and said: “It was a great to be at such a historic event for both BARLA and Pakistan.”

The BARLA Lions also entered a side in the Dubai Sevens. Foulstone continued his fine form with a try as BARLA won their opening Pool A game. Their final pool game was against Reservoir Group Pyrenees when they suffered a a 52-7 defeat.
