Hamilton stars in cup

GAVIN Hamilton warmed up a large crowd, who braved the chilly weather at Hanging Heaton on Bank Holiday Monday, by hitting a superb century to ease East Bierley into the second round of the ECB National Cup.

Hamilton tore the Heaton bowling apart on his way to a brilliant 104 as Bierley overcame the home side’s 188 all out with six wickets to spare.

Fellow opener Garib Razak (42) supported Hamilton in a century opening wicket stand, while Heaton’s top scorer was opener Joe Fraser with 29.

Spinner Mark Lawson claimed three wickets but it wasn’t enough to prevent Heaton bowing out.

Bierley will face either Alfreton or Wickersley Old Village in the second round, which has to be played on or before May 22.

Bierley also know that they would have home advantage in the regional semi-final and final.
