Hightown end Rangers’ record – Liversedge Albion on the up

THE Heavy Woollen Sunday League’s last 100 per cent record fell as Division Two leaders Dewsbury Rangers lost 3-1 at third-placed Hightown.

Danny Laidlaw hit the consolation for Rangers who lead by seven points from St Ignatius, who had Gareth Matthews and Tim Blackburn on target in a 2-0 win over Rising Sun.

Tom Collins scored twice as Marsh won 2-1 at FC Woodman (Dwain Clark) while Mark Wigley (two), Andrew Asquith, Drew Parnell and Dean Murphy struck in Liversedge Albion’s 5-3 win over Taylor (Aamir Navsarka, Suleman Aswat and Ahmed Bodiyat).

Gomersal moved out of the bottom two after a 4-3 win at Ravenswharfe thanks to James Heddon (two), Andy Kaye and Kieran Armitage. Derek Lau (two) and Jason Jeffries netted in FC Pack Horse’s 3-1 win over Battyeford Reserves (Jonathan Turton).

Heckmondwike Town moved up to third place in the Premier Division, a point behind leaders Navigation, with a 4-0 win over Birkenshaw.

In Division One, Birkenshaw Reserves won 4-3 at AFC Chickenley thanks to Joshua Smith (two), Rob Dawson and Jack Rogerson. Shaun McDaid, Aaron Walton and Sam Pickles netted for Chickenley.

Bottom side Bay Horse East Ardsley had Matthew Bestington on target but slumped to a 5-1 home defeat by Scholes Athletic who had Craig Wood (two), Michael Bearpark (two) and Mick O’Hara on the scoresheet.

Railway East Ardsley remain three points clear at the top of Division Three after Mark Aspin, Shaun Hammill and Mark Williamson scored in a 3-2 win at Thornhill (Adam Nicholls brace).

Second-placed Batley Irish Nash had John Brook and Tony Endeacott on target in a 2-0 win over St John Fishers Reserves while Batley Celtics (Danny Wilkinson) drew 1-1 with Snowden (Faheem Mira).

West End Rangers (Jamie Sands and Charlie Berry) shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw with Heckmondwike Sports Club (Richard Cope brace), and Crown Leeds Road Reserves (Will Stevenson) drew 1-1 with Northorpe United (Neil Ewart).

Queens Hotel picked up their first points of the season with a 5-3 win over Overthorpe Town Reserves. Luke Dickinson (two), Kyle Smith, Liam Downes and Ryan Burton struck for Queens while Sean Hodgson (two) and Kristian Angus replied.
