Latif’s effort in vain as leaders prove too good

Cavaliers appeared to set the table toppers a tricky task as they made 233, but Townville batsmen also found conditions to their liking as they completed a seven-wicket win.

Parish made a good start when they reached 98-1 only to be hauled back by former Hanging Heaton all-rounder Nick Bresnan (4-38) and Jack Hughes (3-47). Ibrar Latif top scored with 67 while David Winn hit 58, Terence James 30 and Muhammed Shahnawaz 27.

Townville’s reply got off to a decent start and they maintained the momentum to reach their target in the 44th over with Jonny Booth hitting 63 and Kylinn Vardhan 99 before being adjudged lbw to David Whitelock.

Batley put up a good effort against reigning champions Wrenthorpe, but lost their Premier Division game by three wickets.

After choosing to bat first Batley made 197 with Fawad Maqsood (43), Roheil Hussain (36) and Muhammad Tahir (30) the chief contributors.

In reply, Wrenthorpe were reduced to 55-4, but reached their target largely thanks to Luke Patel (57) and Greig Batty (65) who put on 110 for the fifth wicket. Best bowlers for Batley was Huzaifa Patel with 4-43.

Birstall’s disappointing run in the Premier continued as they lost by 84 runs to bottom of the table Northowram Fields.

Although James Byrne took 5-77 and Rob McFarlane 2-34 Northowram were able to make 275-9 from their 50 overs with Jeremy Smith (77) top scoring.

Birstall’s reply stalled after a promising opening as they went from 48-0 to 73-5 and although there was a rally they were eventually all out for 191.

James Keen top scored with 56 while Stewart Clifton (24) shared a 75-run sixth wicket stand with him and earlier opener Byrne had hit 24.

Hopton Mills took over at the top of Division One with a 43-run win over East Ardsley.

Choosing to bat first, they made 221-6 from their 50 overs with consistent batting efforts all down the order from Christopher Scott (58), Michael Carroll (38), Tahmidul Islam (28), Geoff Hunt (25), Ashley Mackereth (23) and Stephen Bland (25 not out).

Ardsley were all out for 178 in reply as Islam took 4-50 and Andrew Grey 3-20.

Scholes lost top spot as they were bowled out for only 94 to lose by seven wickets to Wakefield Thornes A.

Joseph Duffy (24) and Mohammed Bashir (20) top scored in a poor batting effort and Thornes had little trouble knocking off the runs.

Liversedge claimed four points from a 19-run win over Wakefield St Michaels.

A century stand between Matthew Butler (42) and Sean Wilson (85) helped them reach 240-7 with Graeme Winn also hitting 53 not out.

Wakefield had a good go at reaching the target, but with wickets going down at regular intervals they fell 19 runs short, ending on 221-8 with Nigel Doyle (4-57) doing most to restrict them.

Bottom of the table Mirfield lost by 101 runs to Buttershaw St Paul’s after they were dismissed for 161 in reply to 262-7. Defeat was tough on Haseeb Hashmi who hit 77 runs with the bat and claimed 4-52 with the ball.
